El nou examen de certificació de nivell d'anglès compleix ja el seu primer aniversari, i al Padre Damián estem molt orgullosos de ser-ne examinadors des del primer dia!

Alguns dels nostres alumnes de batxillerat ja disposen del seu nivell B2 d'anglès acreditat.

Necessites acreditar el teu nivell d'anglès per viatjar a l'estranger, aconseguir una beca, acabar el teu grau universitari o avançar en la teva carrera professional? Amb l'Oxford Test ho pots aconseguir a través del col·legi i amb moltes avantatges!

Cursos d'Estiu a l'Estranger!!!

Bona tarda famílies,

Us fem arribar el link de dues empreses per si voleu consultar ofertes de cursos d'estiu a l'estranger. Els dos contactes que us fem arribar són de confiança per a l'escola, amb experiència reconeguda en el sector.

D'una banda Home to Home, empresa amb qui gestionem el programa dels auxiliars de conversa i les estades a l'estranger durant el curs. I d'altra, LAI (Language Activities International) empresa amb qui també treballen altres escoles de la nostra congregació.

Altres cursos havíem convocat reunió de pares, però enguany us fem arribar la informació directament. Algunes famílies ja teniu els contactes perquè els heu demanat a títol particular, disculpeu la repetició de la informació però enviem a grups classe els missatges.

Ja fa uns dies que tenim aquí amb nosaltres a la Rhea, la nova auxiliar de conversa que ha vingut de Glasgow per formar part del Progama d'Auxiliars de Conversa que tenim a l'escola.

Aquí teniu unes paraules que ens ha dedicat per presentar-se i com podeu veure a la imatge, ha estat molt ben rebuda.

I am from Glasgow, Scotland and I studied Law in Edinburgh, Napier University. I have visitied Spain a few times before and wanted to come back to learn more about this beautiful country. I love playing sports, drawing, painting, cooking and going out with friends. I am excited to work at this school and gain some teaching experience.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the students and staff at Padre Damian for making my time in Spain so special. Your dedication, enthusiasm and kindness have made this experience unforgettable.
I could not have asked for a greater team of colleagues and have not only learnt a lot about teaching but also made some lifelong friends along the way.
All the students should be very proud of their hard work and energy that made working at Padre Damian such a pleasure.
Whilst I am leaving for the next stage of my journey I will keep with me the memories that I have made with you all.

Science Experiment

Vacuum cannon

Have you ever asked you if it's possible to make a cannon at home? Do you know what a vacuum cannon is? A vacuum cannon is a propeller that plays with the atmospheric pressure. This experiment that has been done by some students of the school shows how to make one at home, and the importance of the pressure on propulsion. 

Material

It's necessary to have a vacuum pump (you can see on the next link how to make one at home if you don't have it at home, https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_258262&feature=iv&src_vid=CVL99yIB3NQ&v=UkPLu6mgdWA), a PVC tube, aluminum paper, duck tape, a bicycle valve, a ping pong ball and a hammer.

Procedure

1-.  Make a little hole on the PVC tube to put a little bicycle valve for the posterior introduction of the vacuum pump. 

2-. Put the ping pong ball inside the PVC tube and then cover both tube ends with aluminum paper and duck tape like the photo. (The aluminum paper must not have any hole)

3-. Remove the oxygen from the tube with the vacuum pump. It's recommendable to arrive to 25 in Hg to make more reliable the propulsion. (As the oxygen is removed, the aluminum is being absorbed).

4-. Open a hole in one of the tube with the hammer. 

ATTENTION: Don't stay in front of any of the ends of the tube in case the ball shoots out from the tube to the wrong side. Although is a ping pong ball, the pressure can make a big force of propulsion and it can cause injuries.

Conclusion

When the oxygen is removed from the tube and then a hole is opened, the oxygen enters really fast and pushes the ball to the other side making a hole and making the ball shoot out because of the pressure.

We can see that pressure has an important paper on propulsion since without it, the cannon wouldn't work.

Cooking our snack

Durant la setmana de la ciència, els nens i nenes d'infantil es converteixen en cuiners! A P3 han berenat pa amb crema de cacau i han dibuixat una happy face amb lacasitos!!!
mmmmm BONISSIM!




A P4, ens hem preparat un sandwich de crema de cacau i hem afegit uns núvols per fer el berenar més dolç.... Sweet, sweet!

   

A P5 han fet més feina: shake shake shake! Així és com han muntat la nata que s'han mtenjat després amb galetes... yummy...

   

Laboratory during Science time

En d'altres ocasions ja us hem parlat d'activitats que fan els nens i nenes a science. Avui us mostrarem un altre exemple.

Fa unes setmanes, els alumnes de 6è van anar al laboratori per fer diferents experiments sobre els camps magnètics i el magnetisme. I van aprofitar per crear magnetic slime i d'altres invencions ben creatives.

Van aprendre molt i s'ho van passar d'allò més bé!

Ja tenim amb nosaltres els nous Auxiliars de Conversa d'aquest any. Són la Lyndy, en Matthew, la Rebecca i la Chisara. La Lyndy ens ajudarà a Primària i la resta a Secundària i Batxillerat. Tenen moltes ganes de formar part del nostre equip i conèixer la nostra cultura. BENVINGUTS!

Hello! We are Lyndy, Matthew, Rebecca and Chisara and we are the new conversation assistants at the school.

Lyndy - I am from Greenville, Kentucky. I graduated from Murray State University and teach history and math to middle school students. I enjoy travelling, cooking, reading and can´t wait to work with all of the primary students and learn more about Spain!

Matthew – I am from Wales, a small country which is part of the United Kingdom. I graduated from the University of Exeter this summer, studying Sociology. My interests include, playing Rugby, Football and socializing with friends. I am really excited to be working at this school, and look forward to getting to know you all.

Rebecca – I am from a small village in the South-East of England. I am studying French, Spanish and Italian at the University of Liverpool and am looking forward to improving my Spanish whilst gaining some teaching experience here! I love travelling, cooking and sport and can´t wait to learn more about your wonderful culture during my time here.

Chisara - I am from Brooklyn, New York. I visited Spain for the first time in February 2017, and fell in love with this beautiful country. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, dancing, and visiting restaurants. I am delighted to be able to return to Spain and to share languages and make wonderful memories with you all. 

Premi Young Economist of the Year 2017

Sempre estem molt orgullosos quan els nostres alumnes participen a concursos externs. I encara més quan en surten guanyadors!

La nostra alumna Clara Vidal Pardina, que ara mateix està cursant 4t d'ESO a Irlanda, ha rebut recentment el 3r premi com a Young Economist of the Year, el prestigiós concurs organitzat pel PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers). És un concurs interescolar en matèria d'economia, i la Clara n'ha sortit guanyadora amb el seu treball "The Economic Impact of the Syrian War". No és gens comú que un alumne estranger guanyi aquests premis, així que estem encara més orgullosos!

Moltes felicitats Clara!
