Science week!

La setmana de la ciència ha estat d'allò més activa al Padre Damian!
Avui us ensenyem una de les activitats que més va agradar, que els petits de la casa vinguin a ensenyar als grans els seus coneixements científics. Ens ho expliquen en primera persona l'Irene Perez i l'Oscar Grau de 1ESOC, que van rebre la visita de 3r C d'Educació Primària.

This week we are working on Science at school. Last Wednesday some students from 3rd C Primary School came to our class, which is 1st ESO C, to talk about the plants. They studied them in their Science Class and wanted to show us what they had learnt about the plants.

We watched a video that talked about the plant and its parts and then we had to answer some questions they asked us. After this activity we had to draw a poster of a plant. We coloured it and wrote the most important parts of the plant. It was nice to see how they were ‘little teachers’ explaining what to do and how to do it. They did a very good presentation in English! They are little artists!

Learning plants, is fun!!

Aquest curs els nens i nenes de 3r hem començat una assignatura nova: SCIENCE! Hem començat estudiant les plantes i ens hem convertit en científics per un dia.  Hem observat com són per dins les fulles que hem portat a la classe. Hem vist parts que no havíem pogut veure abans! Hem utilitzat lupes i també... un microscopi!! Hem après moltes coses noves i tot in English!

Welcome Conversation Assistants!

Des de començaments d'octubre tenim ja aquí amb nosaltres com cada any les nostres auxiliars de conversa! 

Aquest any tenim a la Steph, la Rachel, l'Emily i la Sarah. La Steph ajudarà a les classes de Primària (anglès, art&crafts i science) mentres que la resta fomentaran la conversa amb els alumnes d'ESO i Batxillerat. Les nostres auxiliars viuen amb famílies d'acollida de l'escola, i estan molt contentes!

Hello! My name is Sarah Kiningham and I am from the United States. More specifically, I am from a small town in Indiana, a Midwestern state close to Chicago. In my free time, I like hiking, playing music, reading, and writing. In college, I studied French literature and political science. For the last three years, I have been teaching French in Tennessee and Indiana. Since I enjoy learning languages and teaching, I decided to come to Spain with CAPS. And I'm very glad to be here. It has been a pleasure to get to know my host family as well as the students and teachers at Padre Damian. I look forward to an enriching stay in Barcelona. SARAH

Hi! My name is Emily and I'm from Yorkshire in the north of England. I like it because it has the perfect combination of beautiful countryside and city life. I come from a large family with three younger sisters. I recently graduated from university, having studied drama at Goldsmiths, University of London, for 3 years. I am currently taking a break from education before returning to university to undertake a masters course in social science. The school has amazing facilities and I am excited to be working with the staff and students here. While in Barcelona I hope to learn Spanish and experience the food and culture here! EMILY

Hi I'm Rachel and I'm from near Brighton in the South east of England! I studied drama at the university of exeter and graduated last year. I have spent the year trying out different jobs and now find myself in this beautiful part of the world where I hope to learn some Spanish, meet amazing people and impart some of my knowledge of the English language to your children! Hello! My name is Stephanie Quinn, I am 20 years old and I am from Preston, England. I am currently a student at the University of Central Lancashire studying BA (Hons) in Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish and Chinese). This year I will be working as an English Conversation assistant until February with pupils aged 6-12 years at Padre Damian Sagrados Corazones. My first impressions of the school are very positive, the building itself is modern and eye-catching, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and the pupils are all very talented and enthusiastic about learning. I hope this year I will be able to motivate the pupils to speak as much English as possible and inspire them to continue their studies of the language further. STEPH

Compare and contrast

Com sabeu aquest any els profes ens hem format en Rutines i Destreses, una manera de fer visible el pensament dels alumnes.

Els nostres alumnes ja estan treballant fent servir aquestes eines d'aprenentatge, ho podeu veure en aquesta entrada del mateix blog.

Els nens i nenes de 3r de primària han fet una destresa a l'assignatura de Science. El mètode Amco ens proposava comparar Australia i Espanya. Les teachers vam preparar unes miniguies de cada país i els nens, de manera cooperativa han acabat comparant els dos països.

Han après molt sobre els dos països i, sobretot, han après a treballar primer en parella i després en grups de 4 explicant-se el que havien descobert de cada país i posant-se d'acord.

Els nostres alumnes han treballat amb les seves teachers la festivitat de Halloween, i us desitgen que passeu una nit terroríficament genial!!!

Experiment de Science --> 2a part!

Els nens i nenes de cinquè han descober el resultat de l'experiment que van iniciar dijous...  Aquí teniu l'entrada on expliquem l'experiment.

Experiments de Science a 5è

Els nens i nenes de 5è C han fet un experiment molt xulo a Science. Com sabeu, des d'aquest curs, les ciències naturals són en anglès i els alumnes estan treient molt profit!

Han fet un "estómac" per descobrir com funciona un estómac a l'hora de fer la digestió.

Així, han anat al laboratori on han desenvolupat una hipòtesi respecte a la funció del nostre estòmac.

Tots i totes han portat pa o crackers de casa, ho han posat a dins d'un globus, després han posat aigua i l'han tancat.

Han fet un petit massatge als globus amb les mans i s'han adonat que tot el que hi havia a dins anava agafant una textura tova. Han hagut d'esperar una estoneta però després ho han vist!

Demà, és a dir, 24 hores després, punxaran els globus i veuran el que es trobem... (continuarà...)

CONVERSATION ASSISTANTS 2015-2016

Ja fa unes setmanes que podem veure per l'escola els nostres nous auxiliars de conversa que ens acompanyaran durant aquest curs.

Moltes gràcies a les famílies de l'escola que fan l'acollida, de ben segur que treuran molt profit d'aquesta experiència, igual que tots els alumnes de l'escola.

Avui compartim unes paraules de la Suzanne i el Marcell:

Hello!

I'm Marcell and I'll be working as a conversation assistant at Padre Damian until June 2016. I am a UK citizen and come from a town called Ipswich which is quite a contrast to Barcelona, especially in terms of size and climate.

I decided to apply for the job as a conversation assistant a year after graduating from university where I studied English literature. I spent the last year working as an insurance salesman and also doing part-time work in a theatre. Although I love my home-town and will greatly miss my family and friends I felt it was time for an adventure in a new location.

In my free-time I enjoy reading, especially the works of William Shakespeare. I also listen to a lot of music, mainly Hip-Hop. I support Arsenal football club and particularly like their skill-full and patient style of football.

I'm very excited to help the students of Padre Damian improve their English vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation, while having lots of fun in the process!  

MARCELL

Hello!

My name is Suzanne Vettrino and I come from a small town called Musselburgh which is roughly 20 minutes outside of Edinburgh in Scotland. I am 21 years old and I recently graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with an Accounting Degree.

I visited Barcelona last year with my family and loved the city so being able to teach within the spanish culture really excites me. I hope to become an Accounting lecturer in Scotland and this experience allows me to teach all ages.

I am very active and when I have spare time I like to go running and swimming. I would like to learn some Spanish during my stay and hopefully learn a lot more about the Spanish/Catalan culture. 

I am very excited to be part of the English department at Padre Damian and I am looking forward to getting to know you all.
